Mr. LAURENT UMANS

First Secretary Water and Climate, the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Vietnam

MSc. in Biology and Anthropology. PhD in Sociology of Development and Change. Over 30 years of experience in doing research and teaching. Working experience in Forestry Development in Nepal (2 years), methodology development for the Forestry Sector in Bolivia (4 years), Organizational and Institutional Development in Ghana (3 years), Environmental Governance in Guatemala (4 years), State Building in Bolivia (3 years), diplomacy in the Netherlands (5 years), Food Security in Bangladesh (3 years) and Water Management and Climate Change Adaptation in Viet Nam (3 years). Laurent Umans worked for the Wageningen University and Research, FAO, SNV Netherlands Development Organization and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. He combines experience in lecturing, development cooperation and diplomacy.

Ms. ELSBETH AKKERMAN

Netherlands Ambassador to Vietnam

H.E. Ms. Elsbeth Akkerman is the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Viet Nam with a topical focus on Trade, Investment and Sustainable Development. Before working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she also had a career at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture.

Director General, Technical Infrastructure Department, Ministry of Construction of Viet NamMs. Mai Thi Lien Huong is Director General, Technical Infrastructure Department, Ministry of Construction. Technical Infrastructure Department is an organization under the Ministry of Construction, performing the function of advising and assisting the Minister in state management and law enforcement in the field of technical infrastructure, including: urban and industrial water supply, drainage and urban wastewater treatment and concentrated rural residential areas, urban lighting, urban greenery, urban transport infrastructure, … organize programs and implement the projects in the field of technical infrastructure by the ministry or investor as assigned and authorized by the minister.
Prof. Dr. VIET-ANH NGUYEN

Director, Institute of Environmental Science and Engineering (IESE). Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, Vice President, Vietnam Water Supply and Sewerage Association (VWSA)

Professor, PhD. Viet-Anh Nguyen has about 25 years of experience in water supply and sanitation sector, spending number of efforts in research and development of efficient water supply, appropriate sanitation systems, sludge and faecal sludge management, resource recovery. Participation of local users and private sector, development of water and sanitation industry, adaptation to climate change challenges are also among his main interests. Mr. Nguyen has experiences in long-term and short-term water sector capacity building, devoting his time for education and training for water supply and sanitation specialists in Vietnam. He has been also involved in a number of consultancy works, as well as in inter-sector policy. He has close connections and plays as a key Vietnamese resource person for international organizations.

Mr. MARCO PIËT

Marco Piët, studied Civil Engineering and Management (Water Management) at Twente University of Technology. After finalising his studies he joined Oranjewoud in 1999, Brunel Engineering in 2002 and DHV (now Royal HaskoningDHV) in 2003. Since 1999 he has worked on water related issues, with an increasing management responsibility from consultant, project manager to Director of Water Indonesia & The Philippines. His main drivers are solving waste, waste water and drinking water related issues and enabling people to grow professionally. His expertise covers the full scope of services related to urban water management, waste and waste water and flood control, from masterplans, feasibility studies, conceptual and detailed design, assistance in tender processes to the execution of the works. He has relevant (project) management experience in small and large projects. He is an open, direct and a result-driven person, and so is his management style.

Managing, Director, Drainblock BV

Ivo Bastings, founder and director of Drainblock, provides governments and real estate owners with sustainable solutions for every day water resources challenges. He holds an MSc in Civil Engineering from TU Delft and an MBA from Manchester and has over 20 years of experience in the water management sector in Asia.

Mr JAN SLANGE

Senior Process Engineer, Witteveen en Bos

Mr Slange joined W+B in 1986 and is manager of industrial water and wastewater projects. Mr. Slange has extended international experience in feasibility studies, design, engineering of wastewater treatment and water management projects in many types of industries.

Ms ANKE VERHEIJ

Viten Evides International (VEI)

Anke Verheij is a water expert, with professional experience in the fields of integrated water resource management, urban drinking water supply and governance. She’s currently working at VEi in a dual position as Deputy Programme Coordinator of the WaterWorX programme, and  Project Officer Asia for the WaterWorX WOPs in Asia including the WOP ‘Towards Climate Resilient Water Supply in the Southwestern Mekong Delta’ in Vietnam.
